Change is coming…

This June marks the One Year Anniversary of The Kansas Creative, and what a year it’s been!  I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to talk to so many incredible crafters, artists, and performers. I love learning about the talents of fellow Kansans and hope you do, too.

For those of you who don’t know, this is a not-for-profit webzine put together by a “staff” of one.  I sometimes call it my hobby, though it’s really much more than that.  And while I feel very driven to do my very small part in sharing our community’s creativity with you, other obligations often prevent me from doing as much work with it as I’d like.

That’s why some changes are coming!  After using the quarterly format for a year, I’m trying something different.  Instead of large editions being published every 3 months, I now plan to publish much smaller issues every month.  I think this will not only help me but will hopefully make it easier for readers to digest, as well.

Also, I’ll be taking a break in June so I can get more things together and updated.  Then I’ll be back with some brand new content in July!

In the meantime, don’t hesitate to contact me; I just love hearing from everyone.   You can say hello via email at thekscreative@gmail.com, or on the facebook fan page (http://www.facebook.com/thekscreative)

Spring is in the Air… [Spring 2012 Issue]

It is time to grow!

Whether you’re growing as an artist or individual, or just growing a few things in your garden, Spring is a most inspiring time.  At the risk of sounding a little too sappy or sentimental, I must say that in the weeks leading up to this issue, I have been completely inspired by all of you.  But it’s so true!  After issuing the first ever open call for entries, I have been flooded with amazing pieces and stories of your creative endeavors, and suspect that the summer call for entries will produce the same wonderful effect…

For this issue, I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing three amazing artists:  learn about stained glass craftsman Mike McCulley, read up on Faye Farms‘ sustainable approach to soap making, and discover the wild and fantastic art of Sushipot.

Pink Elephant Embellishments shares her Faux Dichroich Pendant Tutorial with us, and Jillian Marsh of Sandcastle Jewelry relays her experience of transforming her shed into a stylish and functional work space.  Learn about R.C. Muelller Alpacas and the raising of soft, eco-friendly fibers.

Be sure to check out the selected stories, poems, andvisual artworks that have been submitted by talented people from across the state, including a small collection of works by Tyrell Tinnin.

Also, be sure to browse through the Spring Finds section!  Whether you’re looking for a gift for Easter, Mother’s Day, or just something for yourself, these items offered by Kansas artisans are bright, beautiful, and truly one-of-a-kind.

And finally, don’t forget to go and get some fresh air–it is amazing out there.

Happy Growing!
