Bright Stars in the Kansas Blogosphere…

Blogging is truly an art in and of itself, and I love reading–or just ogling–a good blog.  I am often surprised at what I can get from a site that is well-written, just downright pretty, or sometimes, both!  Below are a few of my favorites, all of which are maintained by Kansans…

et cetera: a community thrift store

The Et Cetera Shop in Newton “…emphasizes donation, volunteerism, recycling and alternative consumerism [...they have] partnered with the Harvey County Homeless Shelter, Hesston Resource Center, Agape Resource Center, Offender Victim Ministries, and others in the community.” (from their facebook page).  Though they often share their latest offerings and sale announcements on the blog, it is by no means a purely commercial endeavor: they post fashion advice and beautifully-pictured pieces for the vintage-lover, feature different artists, and sometimes even offer a bit of history.

I recently discovered this blog when looking at this artist’s gorgeous Etsy shop.  This artist has a style similar to my own–I am a sucker for feminine vintage pieces, creamy laces, and natural materials, so I was instantly charmed.  Visit her site for a good dose of beautiful pictures and a glimpse at her amazing work, too: truly unique jewelry and hair pins carved from shed elk and deer antlers.

Love Local Food in and around Wichita, Kansas

This site contains a wealth of information about eating locally.  The writer talks about her adventures in growing, buying, and cooking with local food.  She also includes an extensive list of producers (in the South Central Kansas area), links to information about local community gardens, and a list of recommended books and other resources.

You might remember Mandy Renee Stos, a.k.a. iamthemandy, from last year’s Fall issue.  In addition to running her own crafty, eco-chic business upcycling and repurposing all manner of textile, she also keeps a fabulous, information-filled blog on her website.  There are tons of great tutorials, sometimes giveaways, and lots more.

As ever, if you’re looking for more, don’t forget to check out the blog directory!
