Faux Dichroich Pendant Tutorial

Love the look of dichroich glass pendants and want to make your own, but don’t have a kiln?  Pink Elephant Embellishments offers a beautiful solution!

What you will need:

  • E-6000 Adhesive
  • Sealant (Mod-Podge works well)
  • Glass Tiles in the shape and size of your choice
  • Bails (one for each pendant you plan to make)
  • Paintbrush
  • Nail Polish – no need to get an expensive brand, grab the cheapest, most glittery shade you can find. The more glitter, the better.

Step 1:

Clean the glass tile with mild dish soap or a cloth to ensure you have a clean surface with which to start your pendant.

Coat the back side of your tile with a layer of the nail polish. Be sure to paint all the way to the edge of your piece.

Allow your tile to dry. Depending on your polish choice, several coats may be needed to achieve the desired effect. Layer on polish until the back is completely opaque, allowing ample drying time between each layer.

Step 2:

After your last layer of polish is completely dry, brush on a layer of sealant with the paint brush.

Don’t worry about making sure it’s even, the sealant dries thin and clear. Allow piece to dry for approximately 30 – 60 minutes.

A second layer of sealant is optional. Again, allow ample drying time.

Step 3:

Apply a small amount of E-6000 adhesive to the back of your bail. Gently press bail in place and allow to dry for approximately 24 hrs.

SUCCESS! You now have a shimmering faux dichroic pendant.

Now make some more!

Add a simple chain or beaded cord and go impress your friends.
